I’ve been studying and learning in the evenings for a while now and it’s surprised me how well I’ve adapted to taking on new information in a different field again.
I’ve been making my way through the Security+ learning material and research videos in anticipation of taking my exam in the coming months. There are concepts that I had explored before and ones I had never heard of. The excitement of learning new ideas in a different arena continues to be worth the late nights and free time before work.
TIP: one of the most valuable resources I have established is editing my feed to bring value to what I’m learning. I now follow a huge amount of Cyber Security professionals on various platforms but Linkedin, Youtube and Email newsletters have been my go-to. Once you cleanse your timeline of rubbish you put yourself in a place where all you see if valuable learning tips and information
On a learning update, I’m currently going through Cloud and Virtualisation Security for the Security + prep.
I’ve never had a huge amount of experience with Cloud security so it’s been great to get stuck into this chapter and use online tools to walk through what they’re talking about.
A few other really helpful tools that I’m using at the minute is Hack The Box (Gary Rudell talks about them all the time and for good reason). From beginners to more seasoned engineers or security professionals this site is great. I’m currently learning in their academy alongside their normal website understanding different concepts and using the platform to get to grips with industry techniques for the various strands of Cyber Security. Great tool!

Another tool I’m using that was recommended to me by a Security engineer on Linkedin, Caleb Mattingly, is the OverTheWire wargames to teach me more Linux commands. I’ve had some experience with Linux in the past but these wargames make it a lot more interesting and enjoyable to learn Linux commands and how to apply them properly in different scenarios. I’m enjoying listening, reading and interacting with new connections son Linkedin around Security and I’ll continue to document things on this site!
You can add me here on Linkedin!
