We’ve now added another goat to the herd called ‘Rosie’ (after my mother-in-law :). We initially went looking for a buck for the females (Brenda and Wilma) that we already had but when we met her we had to take her home with us! She’s due with twins in a matter of days from writing this. To be clear we’ve no idea what we’re doing, we’ve never reared baby goats before but we’ve a load of equipment ready for all eventualities and a vet on standby so should be grand!
We’ve learnt the signs of a goat going into labour are it starts to lick itself, pawing the bedding, nesting, restlessness, and looking back at her sides among others. Basically, we check on her every few hours to see if anything changes!
In terms of the herd, that’s us up to 5 goats with two on the way and possibly two other pregnant goats so it’s definitely growing!
Stay tuned for more updates on the new arrivals!
